It’s actually harder for a traditional film photographer to learn digital photography than it is for a complete novice who never touched a camera in his life. This is because someone who has used film cameras for years has two jobs ahead of him when trying to learn digital photography. Not only must he or she learn a whole new method of taking pictures – but they must forget a lot of what they already know.

No Simple Answer

You can’t force anyone to learn digital photography (not legally, anyway). This is a complicated process, even more so than a point and shoot film camera. It’s not enough to learn how to use the camera, how to set up a shot and how to use lighting, digital photography is also about knowing how to use your computer to “develop” your images.

It’s usually this part that really makes or breaks anyone wanting to learn digital photography. Not only do you have to figure out which Tab A goes into which Port B, you also have to learn a new software package. This writer has given up trying to learn digital photography and just sticks to a 35mm auto focus camera.

Of course, I don’t have the same motivation that other people have when they decide to learn digital photography. Let me rephrase that – I don’t have ANY motivation to learn digital photography. I have a busy enough life. Also, knowing me, once I figure out the shiny new toy – er, digital camera – I will go bankrupt playing with it.

It Takes Time

Digital photography is a skill just like any other. Because it is a skill, you just can’t get it overnight (and if you do, keep your mouth shut or very jealous people will want to stone you). Everyone learns at their own rate. Try to resist the temptation to compare your learning rate with others. Just because someone half your age figured out your digital camera in half the time you spent figuring out just how to turn it, does not mean that anything is wrong with you.

You might also be able to integrate film and digital photography. Get a program like Windows Paint or Photoshop and scan your current photographs into the program. Then, get silly and push buttons. Try different colors, textures and special effects. Making mistakes is the best way to learn – and you won’t have wasted any expensive film.

One of the latest trends to sweep the nation is the practice is having a zombie wedding. This is sort of like a traditional wedding – only a lot gorier and a lot more interesting for the spectators. But, like with any wedding, they will want pictures. Digital wedding photography is a lot like traditional wedding photography – but you need a strong stomach and a sense of humor.

Low Light Is All Right

Don’t ask for more light to be brought to a zombie wedding. Although there might be an occasion where you can snap the happy and decomposing couple in a brightly lit room, the rest of the ceremony will be as creepy as possible. This means that this will be dark to low lighting. With digital wedding photography, you must be prepared for this contingency.

Most likely, you will need a flash and some reflective paper in order to bounce enough of the low light to the back of your camera. If this sounds entirely gibberish, then you need to learn digital photography from books, online courses or websites. You can also go online digital wedding photography forums in order to ask very specific questions. Joining such a forum should be free.

Low Expectations Are Also All Right

The chances are really high that the couple of the zombie wedding will not expect a very high standard of digital wedding photography as compared to traditional wedding photography. However, you will still be expected to get reasonably clear and interesting images that captures the essence (if not the aroma) of the event. You may be asked to be sure to get a particular profile, because that’s where the creepy maggot-ridden scar makeup job is.

Album Presentation

Your zombie wedding couple might prefer to have a CD-ROM of their wedding album than a traditional album. Be sure to get this straight beforehand. You will have a lot less work with your digital wedding photography putting it into a CD-ROM than putting it into a traditional album.

You also don’t want to use the sentimental special effects used in digital wedding photography. No soft-focus shots, no oval fuzzy frames around the images (no unless they’re cobwebs) and for God’ sake, no cherubs (unless they’re skeletons). You can even show the original digital wedding photography stills in order to help the happy couple select a proper wedding album. You might not recognize the couple when out of their zombie garb, but they will be just as proud of their zombie wedding as a June bride would be at a white wedding.

It is really not all that hard to learn digital photography, as long as you have some time and some patience. There are a few things that anyone wanting to learn digital photography should know to begin with, which will be discussed here.

Choosing A Camera

The first step when beginning to learn digital photography is to choose a camera. It is important that you find a camera that has the features you are looking for and that is going to be comfortable for you to use. There are literally thousands of different makes and models out there that you can choose from, so it may be overwhelming at first.

One of the best tips for choosing a digital camera is to buy a camera with the highest resolution that you can afford. The higher the resolution the more mega pixels the camera has, and therefore the better quality photographs you will be able to take. You should also look for a glass lens as opposed to a plastic one, so that it will have less chance of breaking.

RAM is also important here, and so you should buy a digital camera with as much RAM as you can afford. This means that the camera will be able to store more pictures, so you can go longer without having to delete any photos.

Zoom is another important feature, especially if you are planning to do a lot of close-up shooting. Consider the difference between optical and digital zoom capabilities because there are many and you want to choose the type of zoom that is going to work best for you.

Get Comfortable With The Camera

Next, to learn digital photography you need to take some time and get comfortable with your camera. This is very important because the worst thing would be if you had a sudden urge to take a photo that may have turned out great but you were unable to take it properly because you were not sure how to work the camera. It is important to take some time to learn about the different features on your camera, how to hold it and how to take pictures without your hands shaking or moving.

It is not difficult to learn digital photography, but it does often take some time. With a little hard work however you can become a digital photography pro and start taking some really fantastic photographs.
