There’s a good chance that today’s high school students do not even remember film cameras-loading the roll of film, taking the pictures through a viewfinder, getting it developed, and receiving both the pictures and negatives in return. However, all of them probably have cameras on their cell phones and another digital camera of their own, which they can work with such skill and precision that allows them to show the world the pictorial version of their lives via Facebook. With all of the fancy options available within the tiny box that we call digital cameras, do they really meet the quality of their original film counterparts?

Film camera users may look at the “pros” of digital cameras with distaste, and digital camera users may not be able to see any benefit at all to using old-school film. Whether you are a snooty purist who loves having negatives and point-and-click cameras or a control freak that enjoys the instant gratification of digital cameras, you must take a look at the pros and cons of both camera types before you denigrate the opposite camera.

Digital photography is a wonderfully convenient development. You have the ability to see a copy of the just-taken picture on the digital screen of the camera, determine whether you like it or not, and delete or keep it. Some digital cameras allow you to switch back and forth from color to black-and-white to sepia and back. Other digitals give you even more effects, such as having everything in black-and-white except for a color you choose to enhance, such as blue if you are taking a picture of a person with blue eyes.

Film photography captures the true, beautiful essence of whatever you decide to photograph. The quality of photos taken with older film cameras is decidedly higher than the printed-off digital counterparts. Also, film cameras are still cheaper than digital ones. Of course, digital cameras are constantly decreasing in price, but when compared feature-to-feature, film cameras offer more bang for your buck. Additionally, it is now possible to get your prints taken with a film camera put on a disc.

Either way, with the variety of both digital and film cameras available, you should be able to find exactly what you need based on your desire for quality or the ease of instantly uploading your pictures to your computer. A camera is an excellent way to capture your memories or create wonderful works of art. You even have the option of turning your photos into canvas pictures.

Photographs are portraits of captured light. By reflecting and controlling your sources of light, you can greatly contribute to the quality of your photos, whether they are original film photos or digital photos. Learning how to use a flash in digital photography will make your life easier and your photos better. Most digital cameras now come with some sort of flash unit built in.

Mistakes Are Good

Just like with anything else, it takes a lot pf practice before you can learn a new skill. Learning how to use a flash in your digital photography is no different. Expect to make a lot of mistakes. Fortunately with digital cameras, you can just quickly eliminate mistakes instead of waiting for the picture to be developed before you realize a mistake was made. Even the best professional photographers take loads of shots because they know that inevitably some mistakes will pop up.

Indoor Shots

In most cases, your indoor digital shots will need a flash because there just won’t be enough light present to make a decent image. Try to avoid aiming directly at a mirror, glass or other really shiny objects, because this will create a blinding glare that will appear like a small explosion. (This is the reason for red-eye in photos).

If you are taking a picture of a very small object, you can stand at least two feet away. But for big objects like people, you need to be at least four feet away from the subject. Be aware of the objects behind your subjects when using a flash in your digital photography. If there are any reflective surfaces, then the shot will be ruined.

Recharging

Another tip in using flash digital photography is to know how long your flash needs to recharge between pictures. This can help lessen frustration and everyone standing in a rigid pose longer than they need to be. You also should have a good idea your camera’s batteries can go before they need to be recharged. This can greatly help you plan shoots. When the batteries are wearing out, your flash will take longer and longer to recharge.

Practice

The best way to know the ins and outs of the particular flash that your camera has is to keep on taking pictures in a variety of indoor and outdoor situations. The more you know your camera (and the flash) the more you can know the strengths and limitations of the camera that you can work with to take better flash digital photography.

DSLR, digital SLR or digital single-lens reflex is all the rage in the ever-growing field of digital cameras. They are not the same as a digicam, although the name is similar. It is generally believed that digital SLR photography produced more true to life pictures than digicams. Digital SLR cameras cost a little more, but do not do all of the work. Here are some tips to succeed at digital SLR photography.

Check Your ISO Setting

Remember the ASA film speed number you would get for your traditional 35mm camera? The same numbers (called ISO) apply to digital SLR photography, as well. 100 would be for bright sunny outdoor shots, 200 for cloudy days and 1600 for night shots or subjects moving at a fast speed. Since digital cameras obviously don’t use film, the settings are equivalent to a traditional film speed.

Be sure your ISO mode is set before you start taking the pictures. However, if it’s not set, the camera will just pick a default ISO setting. Some digital cameras have an “ISO Auto” button or mode where you just let the camera decide, or the camera will automatically just lock on to the next highest ISO setting.

Get A Decent Tripod

If you are thinking of setting up digital SLR photography or portraits with you in it, you will need a tripod. Invest in the best quality one you can afford or you will have one that’s unreliable or falls apart after a few uses. The tripod should be stable, firm yet portable. Ideally, you don’t want the slightest breeze to make the tripod and your camera shake.

Join An Online Photo Sharing Community

An economical and fun way to get extremely specific digital SLR photography tips is to join an online photo sharing community like Photobucket, Flickr or Stock.Xchnge. Many of these sites not only offer places for professional and amateur photographers to network, but also publish free articles about the latest and greatest in digital SLR photography.

Allow Yourself To Make Mistakes

When you learn a new skill, you are bound to make a lot of mistakes before you become proficient at it. The same is true with digital SLR photography. The advantage of digital SLR photography is that you can quick check what you’ve just taken and edit any mistakes right away, instead of having to wait for your film to be completed and then developed. Mistakes can be a great teacher if you have the right attitude towards them.

Many people enjoy taking photos as a hobby, but we can always learn something new from the photos we take. Luckily if you have access to the Internet you will soon find that there are plenty of websites that include a digital photography tutorial section on them for you to browse through.

What Exactly Is A Digital Photography Tutorial?

A digital photography tutorial is basically a lesson in how to do something better when taking photographs, usually of a certain type. For example, you might see a digital photography tutorial that is all about which viewpoint to take when shooting your photos. Another one might be about taking photos of people as opposed to still life objects.

As you can see, there are a lot of benefits to reading through a digital photography tutorial, not least of which you can select the one which would appeal to you the most, and would be most useful to you at this specific moment in time. As and when you start to learn more about taking photos, and there are different areas and techniques that you want to learn about, so you can look up another digital photography tutorial to help you with the next area you want advice on.

Look Out For Professional Photographers’ Websites

This is definitely worth doing because not only do their sites promote their work, they also very often include advice and techniques for new photographers to make use of. If there is a particular digital photography tutorial that you want to find, you should perform a search on Google or Yahoo for that particular search term, so that you can find exactly what you want as easily as possible. When you find a good site or a particular photographer that you like and whose advice appeals to you, make sure you bookmark the website so that you can return to it whenever you want to read a digital photography tutorial on a brand new subject.

As you can see, this can be a great way of learning new things and expanding what you can do with your camera. The next time you go on vacation you might find everything you have learned will result in far better pictures to bring home and show everyone else. You will also get more enjoyment out of your camera with every new digital photography tutorial you take, since you are learning more about how to use it to your best advantage.

So go on, get snapping!

Digital photography is not only a great career, but it’s a popular pastime for men, women and even children nowadays. Now that digital cameras are becoming more widely available at affordable prices, people can take their photography to a whole new level from disposable and film cameras. Depending on who the digital camera is for, you may have requirements for a new purchase such as price, sturdiness and reliability.

For example if you’re thinking about purchasing a digital camera for a child, you’ll probably require it to be inexpensive and sturdy. In these cases it can be hard to choose a camera that is right for your needs, and this is where digital photography reviews come in handy. When it comes to digital photography, reviews for different aspects of the subject can be found.

Reviews for Digital Photography Cameras

These reviews should help you to determine whether a particular camera is as tough as it says it is, and can really withhold the grips of a child. You should also be able to determine if a digital camera you’re looking at is really worth the money.

When purchasing for an adult or avid photographer, you should keep in mind that a high quality product is what you’re looking for. This means paying more than you would for a run of the mill selection, but it also assures the gift recipient that it can be used to take professional looking photos.

Reviews for Digital Photography Frames

Not only will photography professionals love frames, but anyone who likes taking pictures can appreciate a quality frame to house their art. It helps to recognize and validate the photography work of someone, and makes a great gift for those who already have what they need when it comes to digital cameras.

Finding consumer reviews for these products can help you to determine what kind of frames are the best for particular kinds of photos. This way, you can create a custom frame sets as gifts. These should include frames to enhance and compliment the type of photography work your friend or loved one especially likes or specializes in.

You can actually find reviews for many aspects of digital photography, which include but are not limited to digital art studios, photo printers, photo paper, digital photography backdrops and photo scrapbooks. Of course most of these products just mentioned are needed only by the die hard photographers, but they all offer models that can accommodate newcomers to the photography world.

Anyone who is interested in learning digital photography should know that taking digital photography lessons is going to be one of the best things they will ever do. Sure you can play around and learn about the camera and photography on your own, but this will take a lot longer and chances are that you will not have much success.

It is pretty simple for anyone who is just taking personal photographs to get the hang of it and come out with satisfactory photos, but if you are planning on doing it professionally, you are definitely going to want to take digital photography lessons so that you can get the best looking photographs each and every time.

Where To Go For Classes

If you are interested in taking digital photography lessons, you have many options. There are short digital classes and courses that you can take where you go into a studio and learn with a group. You also have the option of having a professional digital photographer come into your home and work with you there.

Finally there is always the Internet on which you will find a variety of digital photography lessons, some which are even free. The Internet makes it very convenient because you often don’t have to pay for information and also because you can work from the comfort of your own home and on your own time, but remember that there will not be an actual person working with you here and this may make it more difficult.

There is little more frustrating then taking a picture that you think is going to be a masterpiece only to find out that it was either over exposed or underexposed. Flaws in exposure can ruin the photograph. One of the advantages with digital cameras and digital photography exposure is that you know if there is an exposure problem as soon as the picture is taken, but knowing that the picture is over or under exposed doesn’t do you any good if you don’t know how to correct digital photography exposure problems.

Don’t Take It Personally

The important thing to remember is you are having digital photography exposure problems is that you aren’t alone. Anyone who has ever used a camera have dealt with more then their fair share of under and over exposed photographs. The trick is recognizing what you did to create a digital photography exposure problem so that you can avoid making the same mistake the next time you take a picture.

What Is Exposure?

Before you can take the steps to correct your digital photography exposure problems you have to at least have a working knowledge about what exposure is. When someone says that the photo is overexposed they mean that the photo is so bright they are unable to clearly see the image. An underexposed picture is exactly the opposite, when a photograph is underexposed the photo is so dark the image isn’t visible.

Correcting Digital Photography Exposure

Another perk digital camera’s enjoy is that many of them are equipped with technology that allows the camera to adjust the shutter speed and aperture when there is the potential for a digital photography exposure crisis. If you are still having trouble with your digital photography exposure you will have to manually adjust your camera’s shutter speed and its aperture.

Manually adjusting your camera’s exposure can sometimes be as simple as changing your camera’s focal point. If that doesn’t work you will have to use your camera’s controls to adjust the ISO settings. The ISO settings are what determines your camera’s sensitivity to light. Adjusting the ISO setting varies with each camera so you will want to read your digital camera’s owner manual before you attempt to adjust the ISO to improve your digital photography exposure.

There are some computer software programs available that will help correct digital photography exposure problems.

Exposure Tricks

Photographers who are really good know lots of tricks they can do with digital photography exposure. These tricks include double exposure and multiple exposure. Really good photographers also know how to use over and under exposure to add a dramatic quality to their photos.

In a digital photography class you can learn picture taking techniques and photo editing. You can also get a lot of information about digital cameras and find resources for them. There are several helpful resources available. You are taught how to buy and use a digital camera, how to edit your photos and improve tone and color. You learn how to crop and save the photos in the required size so that you can use them creatively in print projects and slide shows. If there is a problem, you also learn how to fix it.

Since a digital photography class gives you helpful information on how to choose a digital camera or SLR you must see whether it suits your needs. In the class you get the resources for editing and retouching photos as well with Photoshop and Elements software programs. There is therefore a lot of useful information that you can pick up from a class.

Blogs

The digital photography class guides you to visit useful photography blogs that cover new digital cameras and technology. If you need to visit photo editing tutorials, you can also get the information here. Even camera stores are recommended where the tutor in the class helps you to choose the best one.

Buying an SLR camera needs considerations, tips and recommendations. You get to know about sensor cleaning and all the Photoshop resources with its tutorials and free plug-ins. You can even download trial versions. For computer novices there are tutorials to help them understand files and folders, how to create them and move images.

Through the digital photography class you can get links to the best camera review sites and the best photography sites. They teach you how to use your memory card and use the slide show and audio software for sharing photos.

Photography Resources

Most of the photography tips, techniques and tutorials are from Kodak. A digital photography class covers all types of photography and photo editing and teaches you basically how to take great pictures. It gives you all the camera news and reviews and gives you lots of articles from various websites related to photo composition.

The nuances of photography are also taught. You learn how to shoot portraits and groups, or how to shoot in sunlight. There are several articles on exposure, white balance, ISO and how to use a histogram. A digital photography class teaches you to understand histograms, white balance and sharpness in photography.

Families themselves are far more terrifying than family photography. Getting everyone together for a portrait is usually one way of guaranteeing that you’ll get some peace and quiet for a minute or two. You can go to a professional photographer to get a family portrait, but most families opt to try and do it themselves. Here is how family photography is usually done.

Find A Good Holiday

If you want to get a portrait of only your immediate family, then you don’t need to make any special schedules in order to force them to the shoot. But if you want to get as many family members as possible into the pictures, then you are best setting such family photography up around the holidays, not only when most people can get together, but are usually nicely dressed. The only other times your family gets together is for weddings and funerals.

Get A Tripod

Depending on how large your family is, you will need wither a tripod. Most cameras sold have a timer feature. If you can’t drag some poor date of one of your family members to do the family photography, then you will have to use the timer. But the camera’s lens needs to be level with (at least) the faces of the adult members of the family. For this, you need a tripod. It’s also a good idea to know how your camera’s timer works BEFORE everyone lines up for the picture taking.

Get A Ladder

If your family could fill an average movie theatre, then you don’t have a snowball’s chance of getting them all in the same shot with a regular camera on a tripod. You need an aerial shot. If you have well over one hundred family members, just shell out for a professional photographer, because trying to do the family photography yourself will be laughable at best, pathetic at worst.

However, if there is only thirty or forty of you, then perhaps getting some schmuck up on a ladder to look down on the small crowd of family members will get everyone into the shot. You do have to be sure that your camera has a Panoramic lens or feature that can not only fit everyone in, but bring up details. After going through the trouble of setting up these shots, it’s only fair that you should be able to recognize who is standing there like a store mannequin in them.

The designers and engineers continue to produce great digital cameras so amateurs do not have to have extensive training in order to use this equipment. The cameras are user friendly, and people who have not been great photographers for years can take great pictures. Digital photography basics are easier than ever before because of the talented people who have made the cameras so easy to use. These experts have not only produced cameras that will snap a picture at the touch of a button, but they have also produced cameras that will take some great pictures at the touch of the button.

The instruction manual of the camera is the best place to start with digital photography basics. Check these out before buying, and if these are not clearly written, you might want to buy a different camera. Most of the manuals have the digital photography basics written clearly. The writers of these manuals with the basic instructions know how to write for people without technical knowledge. They do not write the digital photography basics for computers geniuses. These great cameras are easy to use because they write the digital photography basics for ordinary people. After reading these digital photography basics, the amateur photographer should be able to take and print some excellent photos.

Digital Photography Basics Cover Operations And Troubleshooting

Most digital cameras work smoothly and effectively if they are used properly. The manual should provide great directions starting with the basic operation of the camera. This manual should provide information on taking and storing the pictures. People usually like to store many pictures, and a good manual will provide excellent information on completing these procedures. The digital photography basics should include comprehensive information on every step that should be taken to capture a great image on a camera.

The manual should also continue with the other digital photography basics which will usually include the steps to be taken to save or delete each individual picture that is captured by the camera. Photographers will be able to decide almost instantaneously about each photo. Those photos that are not desirable can be immediately deleted from the memory of the camera. The digital photography basics will show the user how to capture the photos, and the manuals will often show people how to transfer the image to a printer or computer. Photography has never been easier, faster or better, and digital photography basics should help amateur photographers collect, store and print some great pictures.
