What Is The Benefit Of A Digital Camera Lithium Ion Battery?

Published by Author at 5:56 am under Digital Cameras

If you have a digital camera you more than likely have a digital camera lithium ion battery installed.  These are now the de facto for digital camera power.  In addition they are used in almost all of the small portable electronics available today.  The reasons for this are obvious if you look at what makes a lithium battery better than others.  This article will take a look at those features so you can better understand why a digital camera lithium ion battery is used in your camera.

Advantages Of A Digital Camera Lithium Ion Battery

The first thing that separates a digital camera lithium ion battery from other types is its weight to power ratio.   Lithium batteries are extremely light when compared with the amount of power that they can store.  This means that the batteries do not have to be big and bulky and are easily stored in the compact devices of today.  Older model batteries are large and bulky adding unneeded weight and size to portable electronics.  These two things are completely counter to what the devices want to do.

The other thing that separates a digital camera lithium ion battery from the other types is their ability to hold a charge.  A lithium battery holds its charge when not in use far longer than other types.  This is very handy for the devices of today, especially cameras.  Cameras need only be on for a second to take a picture and then can be off for hours or days at a time.  There would be nothing worse than reaching down to get that picture of a great moment only discover that the battery has died as the camera rested.  Luckily this is not a problem with a digital camera lithium ion battery.

The last thing that truly makes lithium the right choice for portable electronics and cameras is that that they do not pick up a memory.  This concept is a little difficult to grasp but basically in other battery types if they are frequently recharged before being fully discharged they will pick up a memory of this and next will not be able to be charged up all the way.  After time this leads to the battery being virtually unable to hold a charge and it is then necessary to erase the memory in some way.  Old cell phones and laptops frequently had this problem.

As you can plainly see a digital camera lithium ion battery is the perfect choice for today’s world.  They hold a charge, can be fully recharged every time, and are extremely light.  There is not a more perfect fit in today’s world.
